MOULTRIE – The Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Authority offers a variety of activities and classes during the month of March.
Adults’ craft activities
Active Adults Arts and Crafts for participants 50 and older takes place Tuesday’s, March 4, 11 and 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. During the month of March, it’s all about the beads! Participants will make paper beads, beaded bracelets, bead necklaces and earrings and driftwood beaded sun-catchers. These are free workshops, but pre-registration is required. These workshops will be held at the Ryce Community Center.
Active Adults Arts and Crafts takes place Saturday, March 22, from 10 a.m. until noon, at Ryce Community Center. Participants choose from the beaded projects listed above. This workshop is free but pre-registration is required.
Learn the basic art of quilting by making a “Rag Quilt.” Choose from fabric on hand or bring 4 to 5 yards of coordinating fabrics. Batting and thread provided. The cost is $10 per participant for all four classes and pre-registration is required. Open to ages 15 and up. Classes will be from 2 to 4 p.m., every Wednesday in March. This class will take place in MCCPRA’s new sewing room at Shaw Gym.
Adults’ other activities
Chair and Flow Yoga is every Monday and Wednesday (with a few exceptions), beginning at 9:30 a.m., at Ryce Community Center. Also, mats are available to borrow on request.
Adult Kickball takes the field at Goff Complex for a tournament on Saturday, March 22. Team registration is open to players 14 and up for the double elimination tournament. Registration for a team of ten is $250. The registration deadline is March 16.
March 7 is “First Friday Bingo” at the Ryce Community Center, starting at 5:30 p.m. Bring something to donate to the prize table. Snacks and drinks are provided. There is no cost, but pre-registration is required.
Want to learn how to use a camera phone more creatively? Join local photographer Ashley Adams on the Tom White Linear Walking Trail, Saturday, March 15, from 3 to 5 p.m., to pick up some pointers. Participants will meet at the main parking lot on Lower Meigs Road. This workshop is free, but pre-registration is required no later than March 13.
Kids’ activities
Monday Makers is an opportunity for local homeschoolers to gather for a crafts and handmade workshop. On Monday, March 10, from 10 a.m. until noon, they will make paper beads, bead bracelets and beaded sun-catchers at the Tommy Meredith Gym Party Room. The cost is $5 per student and Kindergarten and up are encouraged to join, however, adults should plan to stay with students. However, pre-registration is required and the deadline for registration is March 6.
School is out on Friday, March 14, so, children K-5th grade can register for a day full of fun with MCCPRA from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Games, crafts, snacks, indoor and outdoor play and a tie dye t-shirt project await. The cost is $10 per student and pre-registration is required.
Let’s go to the movies Drive-in Style. Come and decorate a big box like a car and enjoy “Turbo” on Friday, March 14. Basic decorating items are provided but feel free to bring items to decorate with. Registration is open now, until March 12. Prizes are awarded for the “Best Decorated” and “Most Unique Vehicle.” Doors open at 5 p.m., and children can wear their PJ’s and bring a pillow and blanket for comfort. The cost is $5 per person and pre-registration is required. Concessions will be available for purchase including hot dogs, drinks, candy and popcorn.
Teen Nerf Night for grades 6th-12th takes place, Friday, March 28, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Tommy Meredith Gym. So, come enjoy a friendly game of Nerf Wars followed by pizza. Registration is $10 and pre-registration is required.
