MOULTRIE – Colquitt Regional has announced plans for the construction of a new housing facility. It will support medical professionals training and working within Colquitt Regional Health System.
Located at the corner of South Main Street and 31st Avenue, the new building will have 16 modern units. It offers temporary housing for medical students completing rotations and on-call physicians. Also, for employees who may be unable to safely travel to and from work during inclement weather.
The housing facility is designed to be both functional and attractive. It will feature well-maintained landscaping with the privacy of neighboring properties in mind. Additionally, the facility will have a security presence provided by Colquitt Regional’s security department. This ensures a safe environment for all residents.
“Colquitt Regional is proud to be a growing hub for medical education in Southwest Georgia,” said Colquitt Regional President and CEO Jim Matney. “As we expand our services and training opportunities, it is essential to provide housing for the students who come here to train. This initiative not only supports their educational journey but also gives them valuable exposure to practicing medicine in a rural area, helping them understand the unique challenges and rewards of healthcare in smaller communities.”
Colquitt Regional has strong partnerships with the PCOM, the University of Georgia, Emory University, and Morehouse College, among others. Students from these institutions come to Moultrie to complete part of their medical rotations within Colquitt Regional Health System. This new facility will provide a place for them to stay while they gain hands-on experience in Moultrie.
“Having this housing available will be a tremendous asset not only for Colquitt Regional but for the entire community,” said Hospital Authority Chairman John Griffin. “By providing a reliable lodging option for medical staff and visiting professionals, we are ensuring that our hospital remains well-staffed and prepared to meet the healthcare needs of our community. This project strengthens our health system, supports economic growth, and enhances access to quality medical care for our patients.”
