VALDOSTA — Seven Valdosta residents have been indicted on racketeering charges that include two shooting deaths in 2023, authorities said.

The seven are accused of being members of a Valdosta-based street gang called “528,” said a statement from the Georgia Attorney General’s office. 528 conspired to violate Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, the attorney general’s office said.

The attorney general’s Gang Prosecution Unit presented evidence to a Lowndes County Grand Jury on Feb. 26. The defendants conspired to take part in RICO-related crimes including murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and other firearm-related offenses in Lowndes County, Colquitt County, and Jacksonville, Fla., the statement said. The statement did not spell out which of the offenses are alleged to have occurred in each place.

Among the seven, Jaquan Walton, 20, is facing murder and other charges in the shooting death of Jaylon Smith, 21, in Valdosta, on June 24, 2023, the statement said. Police found Smith in the 500 block of North St. Augustine Road with a gunshot wound; he died on the scene.

Two others — Kimone Green, 21, and Tsion Clayton, 24 — are facing murder and other charges for the shooting death of Brianna Long, 21, at the Pier Bar in Remerton on Oct. 29, 2023. She was hit by bullets fired from outside the bar as she was closing up.

The other defendants who were indicted were Alex Parrish, 36, Travis White, 21, Antoine Taylor, 20 and Cedric Jordan, 24, the indictment said.
