MOULTRIE – Stringfellow Elementary School was recognized Tuesday as a Title I Reward School. The school organized an assembly to celebrate becoming one of the most improved schools in Georgia.
The assembly was opened with the message, “Continue working hard, setting goals and believing in yourself.”
“There’s no limit to what we can achieve,” said Principal Brian Knighton.
The school was last named a Title I school in 2007. The school will have the new milestone plaque hanging in the halls. In terms of growth, the elementary school is ranked at the top 5%.
Colquitt County Superintendent Dan Chappuis gave a message to the students, teachers, and staff about hard work, dedication and growth.
“We are proud of you Stinger Bees, you are literacy leaders, math leaders and, on behalf of our board of education, we want to congratulate you on all of your accomplishments,” said Chappuis.
Stringfellow Elementary earned this recognition due to consistent growth in the areas of math and reading. The staff and students put time and energy in to accomplish this goal.
“I want to encourage you to keep going. There are several individuals out there cheering you on and I am one of them. Keep reading, keep being the best that you can be. Good job,” said Super Bowl Champion Malcolm Mitchell, who sent his congratulations through a video message.
Succeeding academically, the school dedicates its mission to providing positive learning. The teachers and staff played an important role in guiding students toward an environment for all students to become lifelong learners.
“We have great teachers, great behavioral support team, and a great mental health counseling team, so the whole child will be supported by Stringfellow,” said Knighton.
During the assembly, music teacher Susan Akridge orchestrated two music performances with the students of Stringfellow. She had been practicing with the students leading up to the day of the assembly.
Knighton concluded the assembly by congratulating the staff and students on becoming a Title I Reward school and encouraging them to keep making moves towards success. This reward recognizes all the hard work put in by the staff of Stringfellow, he said.
“At the beginning, we understood and recognized we still had a lot of work to be done, but ‘You have to start somewhere’,” said Knighton.
