VALDOSTA – With returning all-state performer Michael Hall shooting a 33, the Colquitt County varsity defeated Lowndes in a nine-hole match on Thursday at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.
The Packers shot a 147 to defeat the Vikings by seven shots.
Colquitt County’s second group, led by Dawson Lane’s 41, lost to the Vikings by four shots.
The match served as a tuneup for the Packers appearance in Monday’s Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Valdosta, at Stone Creek Country Club.
The Packers will return to Kinderlou Forest on March 17 for the Viking Classic, hosted by Lowndes.
The Packers were coming off a fifth-place finish at the Camden County Classic at Osprey Cove Golf Club in St. Marys in which they shot 296, one of their best scores in recent years.
And the Packers were able to produce that score without Michael Hall, who is coming off an outstanding sophomore season, but was unable to play at Osprey Cove.
His presence was felt on his return to the lineup on Thursday.
The first Packers group also received a 37 from both sophomore Jake Rowell and freshman Cavin Hall and a 40 from sophomore Reese Hood for the 147.
Leighton Hood shot a 41.
In addition to the 41 shot by Lane, a sophomore, the second group also counted a 42 by sophomore Peyton Collins, a 46 by junior Eddie Walden and a 51 by freshman Brayden Nolan.
Jace Davis shot 54.
