Individuals can purchase a banner, now, with their veterans' photo printed on it. Limited poles are available. It is on a first come, first serve.

MOULTRIE — Downtown Moultrie is honoring the community’s veterans with the placement of banners throughout the downtown area.

Main Street Manager Caroline Barber said, “It’s a good way to honor those who serve.”

She said downtown business owner John Norman brought the idea to her because he had seen it done in another town.

“It was a good idea,” she said.

Barber said the idea was to honor veterans on more than just a couple of days out of the year and the banners will be in place for all of July and possibly August, too.

“You can honor veterans any day of the year,” she said.

Each red, white and blue banner will feature the photograph of a local veteran with their name, branch of service and war they served in. The banners are 30 inches by 60 inches and have the photos on both sides.

There are only 33 banners available for purchase and the cost is $150 each. The deadline to purchase one is April 26 and its on a first come, first serve basis.

All proceeds will go back into programming for downtown activities like Spring Fling and Lights! Lights! Thanksgiving Night!
