- Kirkland throws out first pitch Tony Kirkland, center, threw out the first pitch before Saturday’s baseball game between South Effingham and Centennial high schools at the Mustangs’ field that was named in his honor last year. The head baseball coach at Centennial is Kirkland’s son Colin, left. The South Effingham coach, Jesse Osborne, right, played his high school baseball for Tony Kirkland. A member of the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame, Kirkland coached South Effingham from 2004-2009, posting a record of 138-53. His Mustangs reached the state semifinals four times. A former longtime Colquitt County baseball assistant before taking over the South Effingham program, Kirkland returned to Moultrie and coached the Packers from 2009-2019. He retired with 301 career wins. He now operates the Fundamental Factory in Moultrie.
