Ex-Packer, Bulldog Edwards
signs with Montreal Alouettes

MOULTRIE – Former Colquitt County and University of Georgia running back Daijun Edwards has signed with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.
The Packers all-time leading rusher and touchdown-scorer played four years for the Bulldogs, helping them win back-to-back National Championships.
He rushed 390 times for 2,083 yards and 24 touchdowns at Georgia. He also caught 37 passes for 343 yards.
He signed as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Steelers last year and rushed seven times for 37 yards in three preseason games before being released.
The Alouettes will open their season on June 6 at home against the Toronto Argonauts.

• Colquitt County placed five players on the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association’s Region 1-4 Class 6A All-State football team that was announced this week.
Running back Day’Shawn Brown, offensive lineman Khalil Collins, defensive linemen Jartavius Flounoy and Amari Wilson and kicker Brett Fitzgerald were named to the team.
Also representing Region 1-6A on the team are Valdosta quarterback Todd Robinson, Richmond Hill running back Joshua Troupe, Camden County tight end Elyiss Williams, Richmond Hill linebacker Lee Johnson and Valdosta linebacker Kobi Brown.
Grayson’s Santavious Bryant was named the Coach of the Year.
• Colquitt County running back Jae Lamar has emerged as one of the state’s most-targeted recruits.
Georgia and Miami apparently are among his favorites.
• Carliss Johnson is averaging 12.4 points a game for the Albany Tech women’s basketball team.
She scored 18 points in the Titans recent win over Andrew College.
• Emily Allegood is off to a strong start in her sophomore season playing on the 14-0 Florida SouthWestern women’s softball team.
The former Lady Packer is 13-for-25, a .520 batting average, with three doubles, a triple, two home runs and six runs batted in.
• Carli Pearson has played in three games early in her freshman season at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C.
• Former Packers JT Whatley and Gavin Steptoe are playing baseball at Thomas University; Jeb Johnson is pitching at Mercer; and Hayes Lightsey is playing in the outfield at Toccoa Falls.
• Mark Breedlove is a sophomore playing on the tennis team at Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi.
He recently won 6-1, 6-3 playing No. 6 singles against Rust College.
