MOULTRIE — The arrest of a murder suspect, Jaden Zykie Polite, 18, wanted by Richmond County authorities, led officers to a quantity of marijuana and Ecstasy.

Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Team investigators, along with the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force, located Polite at Edgewood Apartments Jan. 30.

According to Investigator Jesus Valdez, the officers conducted a surrounding call-out of the apartment that Polite was in. He refused to come out of the apartment for about 20 to 30 minutes, said Valdez.

He said they arrested Polite when he finally opened the door and came out. During the arrest, Valdez said, officers smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the apartment. The officers obtained a search warrant to search the apartment, he said.

Valdez said the search yielded 90 Ecstasy pills, approximately 1.43 pounds of marijuana, digital scales and plastic baggies. They also found various calibers of ammunition and three firearms, said Valdez. They confiscated three vehicles, too, he said.

He said they also found two switches that convert semi-automatic weapons into automatic weapons. One was for a handgun and one was for a rifle. However, he said, neither was mounted on a firearm.

A semi-automatic weapon fires one bullet each time the trigger is pulled. A fully automatic one continues to fire bullets as long as the trigger is held down.

Later, officers arrested Kevin Desmond Allen, 48. The apartment that the drugs and firearms were found in belonged to him, Valdez said.

Polite was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance with intent to distribute, two counts of possession of unlawful firearms, six counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and two counts of possession of tools for commission of a crime.

Allen was charged with possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.

Both men were booked into the Colquitt County Jail.

Polite, who is a suspect in the July 2024 murder of Argie Jones, 54, in Augusta, will return to Richland County on a warrant, after facing charges in Colquitt County, Valdez said.
