MOULTRIE – On Sunday, the National Weather Service forecasted a 50% chance of winter precipitation including snow and/or freezing rain on Tuesday evening with an accumulation of 1 to 2” of snow. As of this afternoon’s forecast, this area could see up to 4” of snow.
According to an email from Colquitt County Emergency Management Agency Director Justin Cox, “Winter precipitation is expected in our areas around 5-6 p.m., and peaking early Wednesday morning.”
He also cautioned that iced roadways could be an issue beyond Wednesday if any moisture remains on the roadways.
The National Weather Service briefing stated that hard freezes and dangerous wind chills are expected for the rest of the week. Wind chills are expected to be in the mid-teens to lower 20’s Monday night into early Tuesday morning.
He said that Thursday’s “thaw” is still TBD with timing and duration and the National Weather Service cautioned that patches of “black ice” were still possible Thursday.
“Please make your final preparations ASAP,” Cox said. “Check on your families and neighbors, make a safe and warm place for pets, wrap and drip exposed pipes, and protect your plants from freezing.”
