MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County girls basketball team dropped a Region 1-6A game for the second day in a row on Saturday.
After falling 47-36 at Tift County on Friday, the Lady Packers never could dig out of a first-quarter hole and fell to Richmond Hill 47-42 on Saturday afternoon.
The game started at 1 p.m.
The loss drops the Colquitt County girls to 13-5 overall and 2-4 in the region.
With Tuesday’s home game against Lowndes postponed and rescheduled for Friday, January 31, the Lady Packers will try to get back in the win column on Friday, January 24, when Camden County visits.
Tipoff for the game against Camden County is scheduled for 5 p.m.
On Saturday, the Lady Packers managed just two 3-pointers – one each from Amareyia Knighton and Amira Walters-Smith – in the first quarter and found themselves down 12-6.
When Knighton scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter, Colquitt pulled to within four with 5:04 remaining.
But the Lady Packers could get no closer.
Richmond Hill, which now sits atop the region standings with a 5-1 record, was led by senior Jada Brown, who had 19 points, including eight in the fourth quarter to help foil a Lady Packers comeback attempt.
Only three players scored for the Colquitt County girls.
Knighton had 22, including nine in the fourth quarter.
Walters-Smith added 16 and Nacardia Robinson had four before fouling out with 4:15 left.
Walters-Smith, Knighton, Ta’Meria Williams and Caylnn Singletary were honored during the Senior Day ceremonies between the girls and boys games.
