MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County girls basketball team received another outstanding performance from Amira Walters-Smith in Tuesday’s 70-41 victory over Valdosta.
But the Lady Packers also got season-high 19-point efforts from both Caylnn Singletary and Nacardia Robinson to even their Region 1-6A record at 2-2.
The Colquitt girls are now 13-3 overall.
The Lady Packers will travel to meet Tift County on Friday and complete their first tour of their five region opponents.
The Lady Devils are 0-3 in the region and are 6-9 overall after dropping a 69-44 decision to Coffee on Tuesday in Tifton.
Walters-Smith, the Lady Packers diminutive senior sharpshooter, scored 24 points and raised her season average to 19.9 points a game.
But it was Singletary who got the rout started on the William Bryant Court, scoring 11 points in the first quarter.
Nine came on 3-pointers, the first of which came just 24 seconds into the game from the deep left corner.
Walters-Smith and Singletary combined to score 20 of the Lady Packers 23 first-quarter points.
Singletary did her damage from long-range; Walters-Smith penetrated the Lady Cats defense for a series of lay-ins.
Robinson, the 5-foot-9 sophomore inside performer, discouraged a possible Valdosta comeback by scoring 16 of her points in the second half.
“We have been working the last two days on this game plan and they stuck to it,” Lady Packers coach Stephanie Cody said. “They executed it for four quarters. They felt it.
“I am really proud of them.”
Amareyia Knighton scored Colquitt County’s other eight points.
The Lady Packers will return to the William Bryant Court for a rare 1 p.m. tipoff on Saturday when Richmond Hill visits.
The Colquitt girls won the first meeting between the two region opponents 50-37 on Jan. 4.
The Colquitt County senior basketball players and cheerleaders will be honored on Saturday.
The Lady Packers seniors are Walters-Smith, Singletary, Knighton and Ta’Meria Williams.
