season to open Jan. 22

MOULTRIE – The weather forecast for Wednesday, January 22, is for a high of 43 degrees, a low of 32 and the possibility of snow.
That also is opening day for the Colquitt County middle school baseball teams, which will play host to Lee County East in a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Packer Park.
The program has eight eighth-graders, 16 seventh-graders and 14 sixth-graders on the roster.
Which players will perform on the A, B and C teams has yet been determined.
The teams’ coaches will be Will Flowers, Ian Brinson, Will Southwell and Aaron Prewitt.
Colquitt again will compete in the Deep South Conference.
The Packers finished as the runner-up last year in the conference tournament that was held at Packer Park.
The conference will include Colquitt County, Tift County Coffee, Lowndes, Pine Grove, Hahira, Valdosta and Thomas County.
The Deep South Conference tournament championship will be begin with a pair of Final 4 games on March 18. The championship game is scheduled for March 20. The location has not been decided.
Following the season-openers, Colquitt also will have eight other home dates this season including a Saturday, March 1, A/B doubleheader against Jeff Davis.
The young Packers also will play other non-conference games at Jeff Davis and at Lee County West.
The eighth-graders on the roster are Noah Burkett, Parker Bennett, Grayson White, Braylon Inlow, Jaden Chambers, Ja’Brael Williams, Hayden Butterfield and Marcus Norman.
The seventh-graders are Covin Kaid, Drake Saunders, Brayden Eubanks, Jacob Hamner, Colby Browning, Tate Norman, Gavin Gliemmo, Cole Stanford, Cannon Clements, Jaxon Rowell, Gage Griffin, Jackson Lasseter, Dawson Dunn, John Tyler Southwell, Xylan Spivey and Max Bell.
The sixth-graders are Jackson Beaver, Jerren Harrell, Sam Lancaster, Lane Hutto, JK Howell, Mason Adcock, Braston Wilson, Carson Summerlin, Clark Deloach, Ayden Martinez, Liam Posey, Ty Roberts, Wade Sullivan and Joseph Baker.
The Colquitt County varsity baseball team, under the direction of new coach Ryan Strickland, will play its preseason scrimmage on Thursday, February 6, on Ike Aultman Field at Jerry Croft Stadium.
The season will begin on Wednesday, February 12, when the Packers play host Ware County at 6 p.m.
