Local NAACP holds a week of community events for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County NAACP will celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a series of events starting January 15 and going through January 20. The theme this year is “All In: Lifting Every Voice.”
The schedule during the week leading up to Martin Luther King Jr. Day is as follows:
Wednesday, January 15: The local NAACP will be doing a special read-aloud session with elementary students.
Thursday, January 16, at 7 p.m.: Envision a brighter future at the “I Have a Dream” vision board activity at the Ryce Center. This activity will encourage participants to visualize and articulate their vision for 2025.
Friday, January 17, at 5:30 p.m.: There will be a “Healthy Eating and Healthy Living Cooking” class at the Southwest Georgia Community Action Center. Learn valuable tips and recipes for healthy living and participate in a cooking demonstration conducted by award winning Chef Chaka Fuller-Howard.
Saturday, January 18, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.: Give back to the community by participating in a Food Drive at Piggly Wiggly. Donations will help those in need.
Sunday, January 19, at 6 p.m.: There will be a special Sunday Worship Service at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor E. Terrell Carter of Greater New Bethel Baptist Church in Sylvester, is the guest speaker.
On Monday, January 20, the schedule for the day is as follows:
9 a.m.: Start the day with the Community Breakfast at the 50 Yard Line. Enjoy good food and fellowship with neighbors.
12 p.m. to 4 p.m.: There will be a “Culminating Celebration” downtown, on the courthouse square. There will be music, food, and community spirit.
2 p.m.: The MLK Parade will be held in downtown Moultrie. The Grand Marshal for the 2025 parade is Carol Simpson, founder and owner of Eyvone’s Porch Incentive. This annual tradition celebrates Dr. King’s dream and the strength of the community.
