COLUMBUS — Goodwill Industries of the Southern Rivers, which has stores in Valdosta, Tifton, Moultrie and several other locations in southern Georgia, has announced the awarding of more than 100 scholarships across its 50-county territory.
This marks the second round of Goodwill scholarships in 2024, with a total of 315 students receiving over $157,000 in 2024 alone, the charity said in a press release. This initiative, known as the Goodwill Round-Up Scholarship Program, is made possible thanks to the generosity of donors and shoppers who round up at the register.
Goodwill President and CEO Jack Warden stated, “We are thrilled to offer this current round of $500 scholarships to 105 local students at a total value of $52,500. These scholarships are not just monetary awards. They represent Goodwill’s commitment to supporting education and creating brighter futures. We also extend our heartfelt congratulations to all our Goodwill Round Up Scholars. Their hard work and passion for their education are commendable, and we’re very proud of their achievements.”
The primary goal of the Goodwill scholarship campaign is to help students bridge the gap between their financial aid package and the total cost of pursuing their education, Goodwill said. Goodwill credits the campaign’s success to its dedicated cashiers and the ongoing support of donors and shoppers who round up their purchases at the register.
