highlight All-Area team

MOULTRIE – Area 1-Division 4 flag football champion Colquitt County has been honored by earning three of the league’s top individual awards.
Senior Amareyia Knighton was named the area’s Player of the Year; senior Caylnn Singletary, the Defensive Player of the Year; and Kirk Woodall, the Coach of the Year.
Also named to the All-Area team are senior Montana Tatum and sophomore Dalyn Monk, first team defense; seniors Mashayla Davis and Ta’Meria Williams, first team offense; freshman Lucy Taunton, second team defense; junior Jaelyn Wier and senior Carolina Brown, honorable mention offense; and junior Ali’sia Johnson, honorable mention defense.
The players were selected by the coaches of the five Area 1-Division 4 teams: Baker County, Colquitt County, Lowndes, Thomas County Central and Valdosta.
The 18-7 Lady Packers won seven of their eight area games, losing only to Thomas County Central 7-6 in the last game of the regular season.
Colquitt defeated Kell and Mill Creek in the first two rounds of the playoffs on Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium.
The Lady Packers were eliminated in the quarterfinals at Grayson, losing 19-13 in double-overtime.
The 2024 season was just the second for the Colquitt County flag football program.
Woodall started the program in 2023 and has led the team to a two-year record of 29-8-1.
Knighton’s Player of the Year Award adds to the list of her honors this season.
An outstanding two-way player, Knighton also has been named by Score Atlanta as its state All-Classification Defensive Player of the Year.
She also was selected to play in the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association’s All-State game.
Knighton also is an outstanding basketball player for the Lady Packers and reached the 1,000 points plateau earlier this season.
Singletary, who led the state with 21 interceptions, also was named to the Score Atlanta All-State team.
Like Knighton, Singletary and Williams are starters on the Lady Packers basketball team.
Knighton, Singletary, Williams, Tatum and Davis all have received offers to continue to play flag football at the next level.
