VALDOSTA — Gas prices in South Georgia slipped slightly last week, bucking state and national trends.
The average price for a gallon of gasoline Tuesday in Valdosta was $2.88, down three cents in a week, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
— The lowest price recorded Tuesday for fuel in Valdosta was $2.64 per gallon at two stores, both on North St. Augustine Road, according to the price tracking website gasbuddy.com.
— Tifton’s lowest price Tuesday was $2.61 per gallon at a store on US-82.
— Thomasville’s lowest price Tuesday was $2.66 per gallon at a retailer on East Pinetree Boulevard.
— Moultrie’s lowest price Tuesday was $2.64 per gallon at a store on US Hwy. 319.
Valdosta was tied with Warner Robins and Gainesville Tuesday for the seventh-highest average gasoline price among the 15 Georgia markets monitored by the auto club: below Savannah, Macon, Hinesville, Augusta, Atlanta and Athens but above Rome, Dalton, Columbus, Catoosa, Brunswick and Albany.
Nationally, the average price of gasoline Tuesday was $3.03 per gallon, up two cents over seven days, while Georgia’s average of $2.91 per gallon was unchanged in the same period, AAA said.
“I’d like to say that the national average will fall under $3 soon, but now I’m not so confident,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson. “It appears to be stuck despite low demand and cheaper oil. But 31 states already have an average below $3.”
