MOULTRIE – The Georgia Department of Education’s 2024 College and Career Ready Performance Index scores show significant improvements across the Colquitt County School District’s elementary, middle, and high-school grade levels. The highest individual component scores were in Closing Gaps, Readiness, Progress, and Graduation Rate.
In 2024, scores improved for every component directly comparable to 2023, except for one grade level in the Middle School Progress category. The largest increases were in elementary, middle, and high school Content Mastery and high-school Progress.
Within the Readiness Category, Colquitt County Students maintained a second year of significant increases in the percentage of students reading at or above grade level.
“This year’s CCRPI category scores reflect the work of Colquitt County teachers and support staff across all subjects and grade levels in creating learning environments where reading is valued and celebrated,” said Dan Chappuis, Superintendent. “Children will need high literacy levels in so many parts of their lives. Reading is not only required for success in future employment, but it is also key to navigating all aspects of their personal lives. Improvements in literacy fuel growth in all other CCRPI categories.”
Under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act, each US state requires a statewide accountability system that complies with federal requirements, providing information on how well schools are performing. The CCRPI meets that requirement in Georgia and satisfies requirements for school accountability in state law.
The CCRPI measures school, district, and state performance on five components:
Content Mastery includes student scores on statewide assessments in English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
Progress measures how much growth students demonstrate in English language arts and mathematics. It also measures how well English learners are progressing toward English language proficiency.
Closing Gaps measures how well schools meet annual improvement targets for student subgroups.
Readiness includes literacy scores, student attendance, the percentage of students succeeding in “beyond the core” instruction. Also, accelerated enrollment, pathway completion, and measures of college and career readiness.
Graduation Rate includes both the 4- and 5-year graduation rate and is a component for high schools.
The CCRPI no longer includes an overall 0-100 score for schools, districts, or the state. Each CCRPI component still has a 0-100 score. They made this change to increase transparency and provide a more complete picture of school performance. It doesn’t hide challenges and opportunities behind a single score.
Legislation passed, in 2024, requires the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement to calculate a single score for schools and districts. It also requires GaDOE and local school districts to publish these scores online. GaDOE will publish GOSA single scores as soon as they are available.
