MOULTRIE – After sweeping their last two opponents on their home court, the Colquitt County basketball teams went to Bainbridge on Tuesday and both kept their records spotless.
The Lady Packers reached 5-0 with a low-scoring 36-30 victory over the Lady Cats.
The Packers followed with a 68-53 victory over the Bainbridge boys that included a 26-point effort from Cason Harden, who connected on eight 3-pointers.
Marcus Moore added 21 points, 15 of which came courtesy of five 3-pointers.
Kanilyn Jones had five points, including the Packers 14th 3-pointer of the game.
Jakari Byrd had 14 for the now 5-0 Packers. Zi Alridge and Alexis Barge each had a basket.
The game was close at the half with the Packers leading 30-29.
But Colquitt outscored the Bearcats 23-10 in the third quarter and 17-10 in the final eight minutes to finish off the rout.
The Bearcats fall to 3-4 as they prepare to travel to Thomasville on Friday.
The Packers will be back on William Bryant Court on Friday to play host to Westover.
Amareyia Knighton again was under the weather for the girls game and scored just two points, but Amira Walters-Smith and Nacardia Robinson picked up the slack.
Walters-Smith scored 20 points and Robinson had 10 as the Lady Packers held off the Lady Cats, who fall to 4-3.
Ta’Meria Williams and Kamya Thomas each had a basket.
Lady Packers coach Stephanie Cody was pleased with the play of sophomore Azaria Battle who pulled down eight rebounds.
Colquitt put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring the home team 12-2.
Friday night’s game at what Cody has come to call the “Hawgnasium” will feature a “black out.”
All Colquitt County students in grades 10-12 who wear black shirts and present their IDs will be admitted free.
