Colquitt County flag football team to open playoffs at home on Thursday

MOULTRIE – The two-time Area 1 champion Colquitt County flag football team is ranked No. 6 in the state in Division 4 as it prepares to open post-season play.
The area championship has enabled the 16-6 Lady Packers to play host to the first two rounds of the playoffs on Thursday on Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium.
Colquitt is the highest seeded of the four teams that will compete that day for a berth in the state quarterfinals in the state’s highest division.
The Lady Packers will face 6-8 Kell of Marietta at 4:30 p.m.
The next game will feature 10-6 Mill Creek High of Hoschton in Gwinnett County against 8-13 Central of Carrollton and will start at 6 p.m.
The winners of those two games will play at 7:30 p.m., with the survivor advancing to play a quarterfinal game on Monday, December 9.
With wins in both games on Thursday, the Lady Packers could play host to a quarterfinal.
The Division 4 state semifinals are scheduled for December 12. The state championship game will be played at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 18, at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Kell, the No. 4 team from Area 5, will take a three-game losing streak into its meeting with the Lady Packers.
The Lady Packers are on a roll.
On Oct. 26, the Colquitt County girls dropped games to Oconee County, Southeast Bulloch and Dodge County in a tournament at Southeast Bulloch.
Those three teams, among the top programs in the state, have gone on to post a combined record of 48-6.
And Colquitt has won six of its last seven games since then.
The Lady Packers, who have scored 376 points, are led offensively by quarterback Mashayla Davis, who has completed 164-of-308 passes for 1,513 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Davis has an array of receivers to choose from.
Ta’Meria Williams leads the Lady Packers with 63 receptions for 568 yards and eight touchdowns.
Amareyia Knighton has 41 catches for 433 yards and five scores.
And Caylnn Singletary has grabbed 33 passes for 395 yards and six touchdowns.
Williams is the leading rusher with 677 yards on 69 carries. She has run for eight touchdowns.
Singletary has rushed for 521 yards and two scores.
Davis, in addition to throwing for 20 touchdowns, has run for nine more.
The Colquitt County defense is stout, allowing just 7.9 points a game.
Knighton leads the team with 147 tackles.
Singletary has pulled down 19 interceptions.
