VALDOSTA — More chilly weather is on its way to South Georgia.
Though Wednesday will be comparatively warm in the region with highs in the upper 70s under sunny skies, a cold front coming through on Thursday will drive temperatures down in its wake, forecasters said.
The front also brings a chance of showers and thunderstorms with it on Thanksgiving Day, said Lance Frank, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Tallahassee, Fla., office.
Forecasters are watching to see if any thunderstorms could become intense with possible wind damage, said Tom Kines, senior meteorologist with the private forecasting firm AccuWeather.
“We’re not expecting tornadoes or hail,” he said, “but some straight-line wind damage may be possible.”
Rain-wise, South Georgia can expect only about a quarter to one-half inch of rain Thursday, Kines said. “We’re not talking about flooding rains,” he said.
Over the weekend, towns in South Georgia can expect lots of sunshine and lots of highs in the low 60s and upper 50s, weather service forecasts show. Lows are expected to dip into the upper 30s.
A second cold front is expected to come through Monday, pushing temperatures down even further with some spots expected to hit lows around 32.
