Arrington, Barber win top All-Region 1-6A honors

Colquitt County junior Peyton Arrington was named the Region 1-6A fast-pitch softball Player of the Year.

MOULTRIE – After helping lead the Colquitt County fastpitch softball team to its fourth region title in six years, the Lady Packers coach and top pitcher received top honors on the All-Region 1-6A team.
Peyton Arrington, who went 10-4 with a 2.02 ERA in the circle and hit a team-leading .438 for the Lady Packers was named the Player of the Year.
The versatile junior had nine doubles, three triples and drove in a team-leading 31 runs.

She hit .530 and drove in 17 runs in the 15 region games.
And Taylor Barber, in his first season in the Lady Packers dugout, was named Coach of the Year after leading his first Colquitt County team to a 12-3 region record.
The All-Region Pitcher of the Year is Richmond Hill’s Adriana Williams.
It was the second Coach of the Year award for Barber, who also earned the honor in 2020, his first year as the head coach at Tift County.
Barber spent five seasons leading the Lady Devils before returning to his high school alma mater this year.
He also has been named as one of the coaches of the team of all-stars from Regions 1 and 5 that will compete in the Georgia Dugout Club’s All-State games to be played Nov. 9, at Truist Park in Atlanta.

Named to the all-region first team from Colquitt County are senior outfielder RaJayla McBride, junior infielder/pitcher Kamry Paul and junior outfielder Rheygan Harrell.
Named to the second team are junior catcher Lanie Burley, senior infielder Libby Wetherington and senior outfielder Montana Tatum.
McBride, who has committed to play at Alcorn State University in Lorman, Miss., will join Barber in Atlanta to compete in the GDC’s All-State games.
McBride hit .419 as the Lady Packers leadoff hitter this season and was 43-45 in stolen base attempts.

Against region opponents she hit .566 and stole 29 bases.
She also was a solid defensive center fielder.
Paulk, a junior, pitched and played first base.
She hit .310 and drove in 19 runs and went 5-4 in the circle while throwing 52.2 innings.
Harrell, who held down right field, hit .328 with three doubles, a triple and nine runs batted in.
Also named to the All-Region first team are Addison Waring, Ellie Shaw, Gracie Williamson and Madelyn Dailey of Lowndes; Aubrey Ragins, Lily Welch, Maggie Jenkins, Ashella Matias and Nani Auld of Richmond Hill; Hannah Turley of Camden County; Lily Robinson and Riley Williams of Tift County; and Madylyn Hart, Valdosta.
Also named to the second team are Marlee Veazey, Ella Bruce and Cora Beth McCrary of Tift County; Ainsley Washington and Gessilyn Clark of Richmond Hill; Hallie Benefield of Lowndes; Addison Spencer and Olivia Douglas of Camden County; and Jesselyn Johnson, Valdosta.
