MOULTRIE – The Boys and Girls Clubs of Moultrie threw a “spooktacular” Trunk or Treat event with music, fun, and competition on Halloween. There were 150 community members in attendance.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Moultrie is represented by four different sites: The Berlin Youth Center, Moultrie Housing Authority, Moultrie Main Unit, and R.D. Smith Teen Center.

Each of the club sites decorated their van in a theme. The trunk or treat event included a contest between the different sites over who had the best theme for their trunk.

This event came about due to the hard work from the staff of Moultrie’s Boys and Girls Clubs. It was a safe and fun environment for the children to trick or treat.

Many parents are concerned with their children trick or treating during Halloween. According to the US Census Bureau, there are approximately 72.4 million children under the age of 18 in the United States. This represents the potential number of children who could be walking through neighborhoods while trick-or-treating.

The Boys and Girls Clubs’ Trunk or Treat event gave the children of Moultrie a place they could go and trick or treat safely, said CEO of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Moultrie, Joel Jenkins.

From the very entrance to the event, staff members were walking around with a diligent eye, ensuring that everyone was having fun and able to enjoy themselves.

Parents and children trick-or-treated and voted for the trunk they liked the most. The winning trunk was a “Cookie Monster” theme done by the Main Boys and Girls Clubs’ Moultrie site.

Lateegra Fiveash, Boys and Girls Clubs program director and a parent, recognized the importance of this event and said, “Not all families give out candy or have the chance to go out to get candy, so the Boys and Girls Clubs being able to provide this is a good thing for our community.”

Overall, the Trunk or Treat event seemed to be a success, bringing in droves of children dressed as witches, superheroes, and beloved anime characters.

“This event helped build a greater connection between families and children,” said staff member Daquaneshia Stokes, youth development leader at the Boys and Girls Clubs.

The goal of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Moultrie is to provide a “world-class club experience” that assures success is within reach of every young person who enters its doors. Another goal is that all members are on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship, and living a healthy lifestyle.
