MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County girls and boys cross country teams will compete in a Sectional meet on Saturday to try to qualify for the state meet.
The Sectional, which will be held at Wilcox High School in Rochelle, will include teams from Regions 1, 4, 7 and 8 in Class 6A.
The other Sectional, which will be held at Harrison High, will include teams from 6A Regions 2, 3, 5 and 6.
The top 12 boys and top 12 girls teams will advance from each Sectional to the 6A state meet which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, in Carrollton.
Also advancing from each Sectional will be the top 20 individual finishers regardless of whether they are a member of a qualifying team.
Nine Lady Packers and seven members of the Colquitt County boys team will participate.
Although several of its runners have been sick recently, the Colquitt County girls should have a chance to earn a berth at state, said first-year coach Eric McCranie.
The team includes seniors Melissa Breedlove and Diane Leon Hernandez; juniors Eidi Gachuz and Madison Ford; sophomores Chelsea Moreno and Jadia Gachuz; and freshmen Judith Manuel Montezuma, Blair Summerlin and Giselle Reyes Mondo.

The Colquitt girls also placed second in the Cougar Cross Country Invitational held Sept. 25, in Bainbridge, where Breedlove was second and Montezuma was 10th.
Breedlove also had a seventh-place finish in the Yellow Jacket Cross Country Invitational on Aug. 31.
