State trooper injured in Colquitt County wreck

MOULTRIE – A Georgia State Trooper officer, who was involved in an accident in Colquitt County Wednesday, was treated for injuries and then released.
At 5:31 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, the trooper was traveling northbound on State Route 133 in a patrol unit, behind an ambulance headed to a crash scene. They were responding to a motorcycle injury crash at the intersection of SR133 and SR33, according to a statement from the GSP’s public information officer Monday.
The trooper and the ambulance activated their emergency equipment and attempted to travel through the intersection of SR133 and Highway 319. The ambulance traveled through the intersection, but a Lincoln SUV failed to yield to the patrol unit, the GSP said. In the intersection, the patrol unit was struck in the front right passenger side by the Lincoln’s front bumper.
The female driver of the Lincoln and the trooper were injured in the crash. The driver of the Lincoln was transported to a local hospital with injuries and the trooper was transported by patrol unit to a local hospital. The state trooper was discharged later, the GSP said. The GSP statement did not include the name or condition of the woman who was driving the Lincoln.
