MOULTRIE – Downtown Moultrie was “Pinked-Out” for Breast Cancer Awareness and in support of breast cancer survivors and patients Tuesday evening.
The event, sponsored by the Colquitt Regional Medical Center Foundation and the Downtown Moultrie Association, was held on the Courthouse Square and featured educational resources, giveaways, games and bounce houses. There was also a one-mile fun walk around the square.
Derrick Dove & the Peacekeepers took the amphitheater stage to perform for attendees of the event.
“Tuesday’s event was a huge success, especially considering it was our first-ever ‘Pink Out the Night.’ Thanks to the support of Colquitt Regional’s Corporate Partners, event sponsors, fun walk registration fees, and many generous donations, we’ve raised over $32,600!,” said Nicole Stringer, director of the Colquitt Regional Medical Foundation.
Stringer said that Colquitt Regional covered the full cost of the event, ensuring that every dollar raised directly benefits patients at the Edwards Cancer Center, helping with transportation, and providing cold cap therapy to those eligible.
She explained that the center was now offering cold cap therapy for eligible chemotherapy patients. These cooling caps can reduce or prevent hair loss from certain chemotherapy treatments, she said.
“Unfortunately, the customized caps are not covered by insurance and can cost around $2,500, which is why we organized this fundraiser to help offset the expense,” Stringer said.
The Colquitt Regional Medical Foundation is still selling “HOPE“ yard signs for $50 each and will be accepting donations throughout October, she said.
A “HOPE” banner is displayed at the downtown amphitheater, where it will remain for the rest of the month, she added.
“We invite all cancer patients and survivors to visit and sign a square on the banner,” Stringer said.
