VALDOSTA — School is not just returning at Lowndes County’s public schools, but the private schools are going back to class as well.
Valwood returned to the classroom Monday. Power and internet were up and running and the school is working to clear storm debris. Faculty and staff returned Monday at Georgia Christian. Students will be back Tuesday.
Highland Christian has a similar schedule to Georgia Christian. Monday was a teacher workday and students will be back Tuesday.
All schools acknowledged that some families may still be without power and they are working with students.
Around the area, Lanier County announced a “soft reopening” for Tuesday, asking on Facebook for as many students as possible to return. Echols County and Brooks County students came back to school Monday. Brooks asked for anyone living on roads still impassable or still dealing with power outages to contact their child’s school.
Some neighboring counties will be out longer.
Berrien superintendent Robin Marcrum announced schools there won’t return until Oct. 17, a time period that includes its originally scheduled fall break. Faculty and staff are asked to return Oct. 10-11.
Cook will return Oct. 16, according to an announcement by superintendent Joy Joiner Folsom. Like Berrien, their time away will keep fall break. Teachers will return Oct. 15.
