Lady Packers drop first game of DH to Lowndes; second game postponed

MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County softball team’s Region 1-6A lead dropped by another game on Wednesday when the Lady Packers lost the first game of its doubleheader to Lowndes 8-4 at Packer Park.

The second game was rained out and has not yet been rescheduled.

The loss was the second in a row to the Vikettes, who beat the Lady Packers 2-0 on Tuesday at Lowndes.

Colquitt still sits atop the region standings with a 9-2 record with a three-game series against Tift County next week.

The Lady Devils are tied with Richmond Hill for second in the region with 8-4 records. Lowndes is 5-4.

Camden County is 3-7 and Valdosta 0-12.

Only the top four teams will advance to the postseason.

Lowndes, which scored just two runs on a homer by Addison Waring in its Tuesday win, pounded out 15 hits at Packer Park on Wednesday and built an 8-2 lead before Colquitt got a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Waring continued to damage the Colquitt girls with three hits and two more runs batted in on Wednesday.

Ellie Shaw hit a solo homer in the top of the fifth for the final Lowndes run.

Madlyn Dailey, who blanked the Lady Packers on four hits on Tuesday, was not as sharp on Wednesday, giving up all four runs and eight hits.

But after striking out 13 Lady Packers on Tuesday, she fanned 11 more on Wednesday.

Freshman shortstop Allie Eure had a double and a single for the Lady Packers and Montana Tatum added a pair of singles.

Peyton Arrington had a single and drove in two runs.

RaJayla McBride, Libby Wetherington and Gracie McKellar had the other Colquitt County hits.

Kamry Paulk started in the circle and took the loss.

Lilah Thompson pitched the final 3.1 innings and gave up just one run on the homer by Shaw.

She gave up five hits and struck out four.

Also on Wednesday, Tift County completed its sweep of Camden County, winning 12-1 and 12-3 after blanking the Lady Wildcats 1-0 on Tuesday.

The Lady Devils got another 1-hit performance from pitcher Lily Robinson, who also had a home run.

Tift County also got a grand slam in each game, one by Braylin Dorden and the other by Ella Bruce.

Richmond Hill completed its sweep of Valdosta with a 9-0 win.

Colquitt County will play host to a non-region game against Thomas County Central at 5 p.m. Monday at Packer Park.

The Lady Jackets are 15-6, including a 4-1 home win over Colquitt County on September 9.
