Gregory, Paradice honored as Packer Points of Pride

- Colquitt County state champions Logan Paradice and Tuck Gregory were honored as Packer Points of Pride before last Friday's home football game against Lee County.
MOULTRIE – State wrestling champion Logan Paradice and state diving champion Tuck Gregory were honored as Packer Points of Pride before last Colquitt County’s home football game against Lee County last Friday.
Gregory won the 1-meter state high school diving title last February in Atlanta.
He also is a member of the All-USA Today High School Sports Association Boys Diving Team.
As a member of the Moss Farms Diving program, he has qualified for USA Diving’s Junior National championships the last four years.
He and brother Trip Gregory, also a Moss Farms and Colquitt County High diver, have committed to compete at the University of Missouri, where they will perform under the direction of head coach Kyle Bogner and assistant coach and two-time Olympian Brandon Loschiavo.
Tuck, who is the son of Brad and Ivey Gregory of Norman Park, plans to double-major in engineering and business at Missouri.
Paradice finished his undefeated junior season earlier this year by winning the Class 7A state championship at 150 pounds.
He also won the Georgia Class 7A state championship at 132 pounds as a freshman.
His current high school record in Georgia is 61-2.
Logan is an eight-time All-American and its ranked No. 5 in the nation by Flo Wrestling.
He has committed to wrestle at the University of Northern Iowa.
The son of Jeremy and Leslie Whittington Paradice, Logan also is an outstanding student, maintaining a 3.91 grade point average.
Of this and that:
• Former Lady Packers Yarely Zongua and Mattie Jo Rigsby are currently competing for the Abraham Baldwin College cross country team.
They ran most recently on September 13, in the University of North Georgia Cross Country Invitational.
Zongua placed 59th with a time of 25:15.5 and Rigsby was 66th with a 28:00.4.
The women’s 5-kilometer race drew 77 runners from North Georgia, Lander, Brenau, Oglethorpe, Albany State, Piedmont, Agnes Scott, Columbus State and Fort Valley State.
• While the Florida State football team is off to a disappointing 0-3 start, senior kicker Ryan Fitzgerald continues to perform at a high level.
He kicked field goals of 54 and 35 yards in the Seminoles 20-12 loss to Memphis last week in Tallahassee.
Florida State will return home next Saturday to play host to California.
• Turk Daniels started all 48 games he played in during his four years performing on the offense line for the Colquitt County High football team.
He might have started a similar streak at Carson-Newman.
Daniels, a freshman, has started his first two games for the Eagles, including last Saturday’s 56-25 win over West Virginia State.
Carson-Newman will try to raise its record to 3-0 when it plays host to Wingate on Saturday.
• Minnesota defeated Nevada 27-0 last Saturday and got some help from Le’Meke Brockington, who had a pass reception for 19 yards.
The Golden Gophers will put their 2-1 record on the line on Saturday when they play host to Iowa.
• Junior defensive back Omar Daniels was credited for two solo tackles and one assist in Georgia Tech’s 59-7 win over VMI on Saturday.
The 3-1 Yellow Jackets will travel to Louisville on Saturday.
• West Virginia lost 38-34 to Pitt last Saturday, but Ty French did his part for the 1-2 Mountaineers making one solo tackle and assisting on another.
West Virginia will be home to face Kansas on Saturday.
• Ky’von Rivers had two solo and two assisted tackles for the Reinhardt football team in its 28-10 loss to Southeastern University in Lakeland, Fla., last weekend.
The Eagles will be at home in Waleska to face Cumberland on Saturday.
• Jaheim Ward had a busy afternoon in the secondary when Eastern Kentucky defeated West Georgia 26-7 last Saturday.
The former Packer had six total tackles, including one for a loss.
The Colonels will play Morehead State at home on Saturday.
• Kaleb Dawson had two assisted tackles and broke up two passes when Alabama A&M defeated Georgetown (Ky.) 24-16 last Saturday.
The 2-1 Bulldogs will play at Austin Peay on Saturday.
