- The Colquitt County softball team's seniors honored before Thursday's 17-2 victory over Valdosta are, from left, Aziah McNeal, Libby Wetherington, Montana Tatum, RaJayla McBride and Shyanne Harp.
MOULTRIE – RaJayla McBride, one the five Colquitt County seniors honored before the game, lined a walkoff single to right in the bottom of the third to give the Lady Packers a 17-2 run-rule win and a Region 1-6A sweep of Valdosta on Thursday at Packer Park.
The Lady Packers are now 11-6 overall and, at 6-0, are the only team without a region loss.
Although it rained much of the day, Lady Packer Field was playable, in large measure because of new drain tile installed during the offseason.
The rain held off long enough for the Lady Packers five seniors – McBride, Aziah McNeal, Libby Wetherington, Montana Tatum and Shyanne Harp – to be honored before the game. It drizzled later in the game, which lasted just one hour and 20 minutes.
After Valdosta scored an unearned run in the top of the first, the Lady Packers continued the offensive onslaught they started in the final inning of Game 1 of the two teams’ Tuesday doubleheader in Valdosta.
Colquitt scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning of Tuesday’s first game en route to an 11-3 win.
In the second game, the Lady Packers scored eight runs in the first inning, seven more in the second and three in the third of their 18-1 victory.
On Thursday, Colquitt scored five runs in each of the first two innings and seven in third.
There was only one out when McBride’s single drove in fellow seniors Harp and McNeal to end it.
Valdosta falls to 0-6 in the region.
Peyton Arrington went all three innings in the circle for the Lady Packers and really only threw only one bad pitch.
But it was driven over the center field fence for a solo home run by Madylyn Hart with one out in the top of the third.
Arrington gave up two other hits and walked one to get the win that raised her record to 5-2.
Kamry Paulk had singles in each of the three innings and drove in two runs.
Arrington, Harp and Rhylee Tillery each had two hits. One of Arrington’s was a triple to lead off the third.
McBride, Wetherington and Lanie Burley each had one hit.
Harp, Burley, Paulk and McBride each drove in a pair of runs.
They Lady Packers also took advantage of seven walks and did not have a strikeout.
After taking three-game region sweeps over Richmond Hill and Valdosta, the Lady Packers will be back on their home turf again at 4 p.m. Tuesday to play host to Camden County.
The teams also will meet at 4 p.m. next Thursday in Kingsland for a doubleheader that will complete the region series.
