Seventh-grade Packers fall at Coffee 34-24

DOUGLAS – The Colquitt County seventh-grade football lost 34-24 on Wednesday at Coffee in a rain-soaked, muddy, run-heavy game.
The loss drops the seventh-graders to 3-1.
Colquitt will go on the road again next Wednesday to play at Valdosta.
After Coffee scored first, My’King Johnson scored and Xylan Spivey ran for the 2-point conversion and the Packers led 8-6 halfway through the first quarter.
Coffee scored again, but Jaxon Rowell hit JJ Irvin on a long touchdown pass to enable the Packers to retake the lead.
Spivey ran in the conversion again and the lead was 16-12.
Near the end of the opening quarter, the rain started coming down harder.
Coffee scored twice more and led 26-16 at halftime.
The Packer offense tightened the margin when Spivey found pay dirt on a dazzling run, breaking two tackles and eluding the final defender near the goal line.
Johnson ran in for the 2-point conversion and the Trojan lead was just two points.
The Packer defense battled valiantly on Coffee’s last possession, but on fourth-and-goal, a Trojan runner found his way to the end zone.
Coffee converted for two points and the final 10-point margin.
