Colquitt 8th-grade Packers down TCC 30-6 at The Mack

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County eighth-grade football team defeated Thomas County Middle School 30-6 on Thursday on Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium.
The Packers led 24-0 at the half and added a final touchdown in the third quarter.
Thomas County received the opening kickoff, but Demetric Salam intercepted a Yellow Jacket pass and ran it 36 yards for a touchdown.
After Lavon Whittaker ran in the 2-point conversion, the Packers were up 8-0 just 1:25 into the game.
On the Packers first possession, quarterback Michael Fowler completed a short pass to Ja’Quarius Samuel, who took it 48 yards for a touchdown.
After a second 2-point conversion run by Whittaker, Colquitt had extended its lead to 16-0 with 1:14 left in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Fowler threw a touchdown pass to John Parker Harrison and ran in the conversion himself to put the Packers up 24-0 at the break.
Fowler threw his third touchdown pass of the game in the third quarter. It covered 55 yards and went to Samuel.
Salaam had his second interception of the third quarter. After Thomas County scored late in the game, the Packers recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock.
The eighth-graders will play host to Coffee at 4 p.m., Wednesday, September 12, in the Hawg Pen.
