Southern Arts Invitational exhibit opens at arts center

- An oil on canvas painting titled, "Jam," won artist, Mary VanLandingham first place at the 2024 Southern Arts Invitational, a juried exhibition, on display at the Arts Center of Moultrie.
MOULTRIE — The Annual Southern Arts Invitational, a juried exhibition, drew 56 artists with a total of 135 pieces of original art to be displayed at the Arts Center of Moultrie.
The exhibition, which was sponsored by the Moultrie Service League and Metro Power, opened in August with a reception and will run through September 30. The Arts Center of Moultrie galleries are free and open to the public, Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Arts Center of Moultrie Executive Director Joy Yost said, “The opening was a huge success and we hope the public will come out to see the exhibit.”
The winners of the juried exhibition were announced at the opening reception and are first place, Mary VanLandingham; second place, Sarah Painter Hayes; third place, Harlee Powell, who also won an honorable mention; and the other honorable mentions went to Rachel Strain, Kat Chudy, Karla Lewis and Kelly Liedtke.
This annual juried exhibition provides artists working in all mediums, both 2D and 3D, the opportunity to participate in a regional exhibit featuring various works of art. In past years, exhibited work has included oil and watercolor paintings, pencil and ink drawings, clay and metal sculpture, fiber art, ceramics, and jewelry.
