MOULTRIE — A Moultrie man who was bitten by a state patrol K9 dog Aug. 22 has died, authorities said last week.
Kevin Kennedy, 44, died Aug. 27 at Atrium Health Navicent hospital in Macon, said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.
The cause of Kennedy’s death is being investigated and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is being called in, said Colquitt County Coroner Verlyn Brock.
Around 2:33 p.m. Aug. 22, Georgia State Patrol troopers were patrolling on Lanier Road in Colquitt County when they saw a blue four-wheeler; there had been reports recently of a stolen four-wheeler, according to a patrol statement.
Kennedy, the driver, fled when troopers tried to stop the vehicle. The pursuit went into a home’s yard and a peanut field west of Ga. Highway 33; the four-wheeler’s rider made a turn in front of the patrol cruiser and hit the right bumper, overturning, the patrol said.
The driver fled on foot but was apprehended by a state patrol K9 unit after a brief chase.
EMS was notified for injuries Kennedy had sustained from a bite. Subsequently he had to be taken to Atrium Health Navicent hospital in Macon.
