The top 18 advanced to the semifinal, which will be held at 4 a.m. Wednesday.

The 3-meter springboard final is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday.

Tyler was in 19th place after the fourth of his six dives on Tuesday, but put up his best scores on his final two dives, a 73.50 on both his reverse 3 1/2 somersaults and his reverse 1 1/2 somersaults and 3 1/2 twists.

The USA’s Andrew Capobianco was 15th with a 382.05 and also qualified for the semifinal.

Chinese divers took the top two places on Tuesday.

Wang Zongyuan, the silver medalist in the Tokyo Olympics, was first with a 530.65 and Xie Siyi, the Tokyo gold medal winner, was second with a 509.60.

“It was great to see Carson coming into the moment and doing what it takes to make it to the semifinals,” his former Moss Farm Diving coach John Fox, who is in Paris for the Olympic Games, said via text.

“The Olympics stage is entirely different than any other stage he has experienced. It’s obvious he’s meant to be here.”

Tyler also will compete in the Olympics’ 10-meter event, which will begin with the prelim at 4 a.m. Friday.

The 10-meter semifinal is scheduled for 4 a.m. Saturday with the final following at 9 a.m.

Tyler is the first Colquitt County and Moss Farms diver to qualify for the Olympic Games.

He is also the first American since Mark Ruiz in 2000 to qualify for both the springboard and 10-meter platform events in the same Olympics.

Greg Louganis is the only other American to qualify on both boards.

Tyler competes collegiately at Indiana University, where his coach is Drew Johansen, who is also the USA diving team’s coach.
