As of about 4 p.m. Sunday, the public school district plans to resume normal operations Tuesday.

Should schools need to remain closed after the storm passes, updates will be provided via SchoolNow (text/email/app notifications), employee email, and social media postings on all school and district pages, websites, and local media outlets, the school system said.

All afterschool activities and athletics are canceled on Monday as well, the school system said.

About 5 p.m. Sunday, PCOM South Georgia announced its campus would also be closed on Monday.

“Due to Tropical Storm Debby, all on-campus activities have been suspended for Monday, Aug. 5,” the medical college said in an email to The Observer. “Students should check Blackboard and PCOM email for directions. Faculty and staff should telework unless otherwise noted. Alerts will be sent via PENS emergency notification system and social media.”

Shortly after 5, the Southwest Public Health District announced: “The Southwest Health District facilities in Decatur, Grady, Thomas, Colquitt,

and Mitchell counties will be closed on Monday, August 5, 2024, due to the potential for severe weather. Offices are scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at their regularly scheduled hours.”
