Notes column: Michael Hall ties for ninth In 2024 Future Masters

MOULTRIE — Colquitt County’s Michael Hall shot 1-over par to tie for ninth place out of 230 players in the 15-18 age group in the recent 75th annual Press Thornton Future Masters golf tournament held at Dothan Country Club.
Hall was one of five Sunset Country Club juniors to compete in the prestigious event.
Austin Baker opened with a 79, but came back with a second-day 68 to finish 73rd in the 15-18 age group.
Cavin Hall played the 13-14 age group and shot 5-over par to finish eighth out of 116 players.
Davis Hall finished 36th out of 80 players in the 11-12 age group.
David Herndon also represented Sunset in the tournament.
Baker also finished tied for fifth out of 51 golfers in an American Junior Golf Association event held at the RTJ Golf Trail Lake Course in Opelika, Ala.
After opening with a 77, Baker followed with rounds of 67 and 70.
Cavin Hall also competed in the tournament, finishing 41st.
Also, Reese Hood shot a 78 to win Sunset’s boys 18-hole Junior Club Championship.
Peyton Collins was two strokes back.
Davis Hall won the boys 9-hole division with a 37. Herndon was the second with a 42.
Blakely Collins shot a 59 to take the girls 9-hole championship.
Also, Sunset will play host to its 70th annual Ramsey Pidcock Invitational on July 27-28.
Of this and that:
• An estimated 700 contestants from all over Georgia are expected for the Georgia Recreation and Park Association’s Class B State Swim Meet to be held July 12-13 at the Southwest Memorial Pool.
• The Junior Packer Baseball Academy clinic, hosted by the Fundamental Factory, is scheduled July 13 and 27.
The clinic is for second and third-graders and fourth and fifth-graders.
The clinic will be led by Packer head baseball coach Ryan Strickland, his staff and players, and other guest instructors.
Sessions are limited to 20 participants.
The cost is $60 per session.
Proceeds from the camp will benefit the Packers baseball program.
