MOULTRIE — The John Benning Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, invites the community to celebrate Independence Day on the Colquitt County Courthouse Square.

The event will take place at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, in the shade near the Liberty Bell on east side of the square. In the event of rain, the event will be moved to the breezeway next to King’s Jewelry.

An ensemble of the newly formed Moultrie Master Chorale, under the direction of Travis Kern, will offer a preview of the pieces they are preparing for their concert to honor the sacrifice of allied soldiers on D-Day. The chorale is preparing The Rutter Requiem and other patriotic music for a concert on Saturday, July 27.

County and city officials will sign a proclamation announcing the kickoff of the Moultrie-Colquitt County America 250 Committee. This committee has been organized to promote the celebration of the United States Semiquincentennial in 2026, honoring the 250th birthday of our nation.

DAR will present two awards during Independence Day program. The Community Service Award recognizes groups and individuals who are making a significant difference in their communities through volunteer cultural, educational, humanitarian, patriotic, or historical endeavors.
