CCREA honors scholarship recipients, deceased members

The Colquitt County Retired Educators Association donated books to the local library in memory of members who passed away over the past year. Family members representing their deceased loved ones at the CCREA’s recent meeting were, from left, Barbara Godwin for Steve Godwin, Laura Hall for Kay Hall, Bob Montgomery for Cindy Montgomery, and Cheryl Ruis and Stacy Griffin for Leon Cardwell.

MOULTRIE — The May meeting of the Colquitt County Retired Educators was held at the Moultrie-Colquitt County Library. President Julia J. Dorminey welcomed the members and guest. The devotion was given by Rev. Jimmy Voyles, PhD.

A memorial tribute was presented in memory of four deceased members: Leon Cardwell, Kay Hall, Steve Godwin, and Cindy Montgomery. Wanda Vickers and Carol Ann Horne, CCREA members, remembered each with a candle being lit and words of praise for their dedication to education and the community. Books were selected and placed in the library in their memory.

President Dorminey recognized the following 2024 CCREA Scholarship recipients: Amber Lane Boyd, Pamela Sims Canty, Misty DeAnne Dove, Brandy Azar Gay, Leah Denise Hill, Chandler Beth Horne, Ashley Tamar Almond, and Gracie Elizabeth Gay.

Debbie Peters, CCREA member, installed the 2024-2025 officers. They are as follows: President Julia J. Dorminey; President Elect Click Peters; Past President Carol Ann Horne; Secretary Charlene Robinson; and Treasurer Bobbie Key.

Refreshments were served in celebration for the 50th year of the organization. The next meeting of CCREA will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 9, at the Moultrie-Colquitt County Library.
