2024 Seniors honored for accomplishments

MOULTRIE — Soon to graduate Colquitt County High School seniors were recognized with awards for their achievements during the 2023-24 school year.

The ceremony was held at Withers Auditorium Wednesday, May 1, where departmental awards and Advanced Placement awards were given to students in the senior class and the 2024 Merit Graduates and 2024 Honor Graduates were recognized.

Each year the Georgia Migrant Education Program recognizes a senior migrant student who has demonstrated exceptional academic achievements and a commitment to their studies. Maggie Brown acknowledged Yadhira Alvarez as student with the highest GPA in the state of Georgia.

For the Drama department, certificates and cords were be given to the Senior Members of the International Thespian Troupe. The International Thespian Society is an honor society for high school theater students and educators. Membership is granted to students who have earned points (hours accumulated) working on and off the stage in their schools and communities. The students who were awarded include Emma Kirkley, Jackson Land, Allyson Pendarvis and Jenna Reed.

The Work Based Learning/Youth Apprenticeship Program, offered at Colquitt County High School, provides students an opportunity to receive credit while working in an environment that relates to their career pathway. The Work Based Learning Department recognized Eli Meads and D’Life Wilson.

Valerie Bennett, Colquitt County Extension and 4-H agent, recognized eight seniors and presented them with their 4-H Graduation Cords. These students have represented 4-H by being a part of the S.A.F.E. Shooting Sports Teams, being a Teen Board Member of the Well-Connected Communities Grant, and attending events such as DPA and State Council. The students are Summer Allbrooks, Langley Bennett, Ethan Collins, Kaylee Hall, Noah Henderson, Jayda Hughes, Wes Mims and Juan Sanchez.

Ten Colquitt County High School seniors performed well enough on their 2023 Advanced Placement courses to be recognized by the College Board:

Two current seniors were named 2023 AP Scholars with Distinction, awarded to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams — Quince McCloud and Karson Smith.

One current senior was named a 2023 AP Scholar with Honor, which is awarded to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams — Alexa Kinsey.

Seven seniors were named 2023 AP Scholars for scoring a 3 or higher on at least three AP exams — Yadhira Alavrez, Ava Brooks, Elizabeth Costin, Marlie Daniels, James Fagan, Cayden Parker and Eugenia Guevara-Rodriguez.
