Toomer first in shot put at 7A sectional

VALDOSTA — Bryce Toomer won for the Colquitt County Packers at Class 7A track and field sectionals Saturday and CCHS will compete at state in three events.

Toomer qualified twice. His shot put of 53-3 won first place six inches and Toomer was second in discus, less than one foot from winning. Kadan Spratling of Carrollton won discus at 156-11 and Toomer threw it an even 156 feet.

Colquitt’s other state qualifier was Rajayla McBride, who was third in triple jump, her best leap good for 36-6. McBride was barely an inch from second place. Amiyah Michel of North Gwinnett’s distance 36-7.25.

The boys 4×200 team missed qualifying by less than one-half second. Matt Bryan, Jalen Clayton, Dy’Quavian James and Joshua Alford crossed the finish line in 1:29.91 for ninth place. Eighth place Newton ran in 1:29.58.

Sectionals were held at Valdosta High. State runs from May 9-11 at Carrollton High.
