Recreation Authority has lots of summer activities planned

MOULTRIE – The Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Authority has lots of summer activities to keep both kids and adults busy.

The Community Market, located on the Recreation Authority’s campus at 1020 Fourth St. S.W., has local vendors with handmade and homemade goods and is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, except for May 18, due to the high school graduation.

The May 4, community market will give children the opportunity to create a garden stepping stone just in time for Mother’s Day. The activity is free and will be available while supplies last that morning. Shop for a unique gift for Mother’s Day at the May 11, community market.

On May 5, there will be a Mother Daughter Tea Party at the Ryce Community Center from 3 to 5 p.m. This event is free, but registration is required to attend.

On Saturday, May 11, is the annual MCCPRA Fishing Rodeo at the Magnolia Pond by Walmart. Children 15 and younger can fish and have a chance to win prizes. This free event will take place from 8 until 11 a.m. No registration is necessary.

Bingo will be Thursday, May 23, starting at 5 p.m., at the Ryce Community Center. Bring something to contribute to the prize table and bring a snack to share. Drinks will be provided.

MCCPRA will host a Senior Resource Fair on Thursday, May 30, from 3 to 7 p.m., at Tommy Meredith Gym. Learn what is available in the community for the 50 and older population.

On Tuesday, June 4, see Jeffini the Great at the Tommy Meredith Gym, at 6:30 p.m. This comedy magician event is free and open to the public.

On Tuesday, June 11, the Rollin’ Rec will be at the Ryce Community Center/William Bryant Park from 10 a.m. until noon and at Main Street Park from 2 to 4 p.m. Jump rope, hula hoop, play corn hole, try out the balance boards, put together a puzzle, try the giant Jenga or the giant Connect Four. The activities are free to the public and no pre-registration is required.

On Monday, June 14, see “Animal Tales” at Ryce Community Center/William Bryant Park at 6:30 p.m. This is free and open to the public.

On Monday, June 17, Mahealani Polynesian Dancers will be at Main Street Park on at 5:30 p.m. for a free performance.

“Tie Dye Mania” will take place on Tuesday, June 18, at Main Street Park at 10 a.m. and at the Ryce Community Center/William Bryant Park at 6 p.m. Ideas will be given for techniques to choose from for a one-of-a-kind T shirt with the MCCPRA logo. This is free but registration with t-shirt size is required no later than June 11.

National Bingo Day is Thursday, June 27. MCCPRA will host a community-wide Bingo event at Main Street Park at 6 p.m. Each person will be given six cards to play and each winner will choose their own prize. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for this fun community event. There will be a concession stand for pizza, drinks and snacks.

On Saturday, July 20, there will be a “Paw Patrol” Party. Skye, Chase and Marshall will be at Main Street Park from 10 to 11 a.m., and again at the Ryce Community Center/William Bryant Park from 2 to 4 p.m. There will be crafts and snacks and an opportunity to take a picture with the characters.

Celebrate Christmas in July, Thursday, July 25, with games and crafts at 10 a.m., at the Ryce Community Center/William Bryant Park and again at 2 p.m., at Main Street Park.

MCCPRA will wrap-up their summer with another Rollin’ Rec event on Wednesday, July 31, at 10 a.m., at Main Street Park and at 6 p.m., at the Ryce Community Center/William Bryant Park. This event is free and requires no reservations.
