Packers athlete wins first place during regionals

MOULTRIE —  Bryce Toomer threw a discus 148 feet, 2 inches to win the Region 1-7A track and field meet at Lowndes April 24.

Toomer was the sole athlete from Colquitt County to place first during any event in regionals.

Eleven different events, including the men’s discus throw from regionals saw athletes from either the Packers or Lady Packers varsity track and field roster advance to the sectional round of competition.

The majority of events Colquitt County qualified for were relay races.  

Both the Lady Packers and Packers will be competing in the 4×400-meter and the 4×800.

During regionals, the Lady Packers team of D’Zeriyah Polite, Dalivia McBride, Nacardia Robinson and Jakayla McBride completed the 4×400 in 4:55.52, finishing fourth.

Also finishing fourth during the 4×800 with 12:51.70 was the Lady Packers team of Allison Quiroz, Melissa Breedlove, Monai Alexander and Yarely Zongua. 

Each of these races for the Lady Packers were season bests. 

Packers quartet Matt Bryant, Dy’Quavian James, Ja’Shar Kinsey and Jaquez Collier advanced to sectionals in the 4×400 after a finishing time of 3:33.67. 

The final runner crossed the finish line at 9:23.97 during the Packers’ 4×800, getting the season’s best, run by Gage Dorsey, Jayln Green, Chris Williams, EsQuivel Andrick. 

Packers will also be participating in the 4×100 and 4×200 during sectionals.  

Finishing third during regionals with a time of 44.42 in the 4×100 were Ameri Knighton, Jalen Clayton, James and Joshua Alford.

James, Alford and Clayton also ran in the 4×200 with Bryant as their fourth. The group completed the race in 1:30.53 for the season best and third place. 

All other events that the Packers and Lady Packers qualified for in sections were in field events. 

Toomer, in addition to the discus, also qualified for the shootout when he won second place after his 48-1.25 throw.  

The triple jump, long jump and high jump are all going to see competitors from the Lady Packers. 

Rajayla McBride took second in the triple jump with 35-6.5.

Dalivia McBride won fourth in the high jump with 5-0; and, fourth in the long jump with 16-2.
