Colquitt eighth-grade team falls to Hahira in title game

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County eighth-grade baseball team fell to Hahira 7-1 on Tuesday to finish second in the Deep South Baseball Conference tournament.

The Packers, the No. 4 seed headed into the tournament, defeated Thomas County 10-2 and top-seeded Tift County 6-3 to reach the championship game.

But Colquitt managed just the one run and lost Hahira for the third time this season.

The eighth-graders had five hits, including two by shortstop Jackson Dorminey.

Briar Littleton had a double and Kade Hopper and Easton Harlow added singles.

Harlow and Chase Enfinger did the pitching.

Hahira won the tournament for the third straight year.

Colquitt, which took a five-game winning streak into the game, finishes its season with an 11-6 record.

Littleton, the big first baseman, led the Packers in hitting, with .490 average; runs batted in, with 15; and doubles, with eight.

Trenton Coney batted .448; Hopper and Harlow each hit .381; Enfinger, .370; Bradley Bryan, .353; and Javien Daniels, .342.

Daniels led the pitching staff in wins with three. Dorminey led the Packers with 38 strikeouts and a 1.77 ERA.

The Colquitt County seventh-grade team rallied from a 7-0 deficit to defeat Thomas County 9-8 in its season-finale.
