GBI: Brooks man accused of murdering uncle

QUITMAN — A Brooks County man has been charged with murdering his uncle Wednesday, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a statement.

Jonah Kenney, 27, of Quitman, was charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during a crime in the death of Jed Maichele, 56, of Quitman, said the statement, which was released on Friday.

Around 8 p.m. Wednesday, Brooks County. 911 received several calls about a shooting in the 1800 block of Blair Road; deputies responded and found Maichele with gunshot wounds, the GBI said. He was declared dead at the Brooks County Hospital.

Investigators determined Kenney, Maichele’s nephew, was involved, according to the statement. He was stopped by a Georgia State Trooper for unrelated traffic violations; the GBI questioned him and he was booked into the Brooks County Jail.
