MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County Chapter of the NAACP, the Federated Women’s Club and the Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Authority partnered to host an Oratorical Competition for students in grades 3rd-12th.

The competition titled, “Speak It, Say It, Tell It,” gave students the option of selecting a speech or poem to interpret or they could choose to present an original piece.

Students were judged on appropriate dress, their salutation, vocal projection and control, effective intonation and articulation, good eye contact, ability to use notes without distracting from the presentation, grammar, and pronunciation, and thanking the audience when finished.

The student winners were for 3rd place, Arbashaun Curry with “A Better Measure for Society” Interpretive; for 2nd place, Demarielle Daniels with “We Rise” Original and for 1st place, Anais Clarke with “Finding Your Purpose” Original.

Representatives from each of the three sponsor organizations served as adjudicators for the competition. Event organizer Clovis King said that it has been more than 30 years since an oratorical competition for the community has been offered and she was pleased with the foundation this event would provide for future opportunities for Colquitt County students.
