A burn building is a structure specifically designed for educational purposes during the training of firefighters.

The prop, usually constructed of concrete and masonry shells, would be an unoccupied building the fire station could repetitively ignite and extinguish during training exercises.

According to City Manager Pete Dillard, the addition of a burn building would improve the Insurance Service Organization rating in the city from a 3 up to a 2, which in turn would lower homeowners’ insurance.

The burn building would cost $493,134 with WHP Traingingtowers of Grandview, Missouri, selected as the company to install the structure.

SPLOST 2019 and 2025 funds would be used for this purchase.

Also being discussed during the City Council meeting is the third and final reading to amend the alcoholic beverages ordinance within the city limits and the consideration of the Spence Field runway rehab construction phase 2 supplemental agreement #1.

Any resident who wishes to discuss any of these matters with City Council can attend the public forum on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The meeting is being held on the second floor of the Moultrie Municipal Building.
