Diamond Packers split DH with Harrison, Newnan

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County baseball team used a short weekend trip to the Marietta area to win two games that extended its winning streak to four games before falling to high-scoring Newnan Saturday afternoon.
After scoring a run in their last at bat on Friday to beat Hillgrove 3-2, the Packers scored in each of the first four innings and went on to beat Harrison 7-3 in Saturday’s first game.

But Colquitt managed just two Bowen DeRosso singles in Saturday’s second game, an 11-0 loss to Newnan.
The Packers will take an 8-5 record into Thursday’s 6 p.m. Senior Night game against Coffee High.
Cam Cook had a big game in Saturday’s first game with three hits, including a two-run homer in the second inning to put the Packers up 5-1.
He also had a double and a single.
Colquitt also got singles from Jaxon Chambers, Adam Beverly and Hayden Hembree.
Beverly also drove in a pair of runs.

The Packers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single by Beverly and bases-loaded walks by Cayden Parker and Jake Walker.
Cook’s line drive shot over the left field fence followed a walk to Mason Moore in the second inning.
The Packers added single runs in the third and fourth innings.
Logan Plymel went the first four innings on the mound for the Packers, giving up six hits and two runs, only one of which was earned. He issued two bases on balls and struck out six.
Cole Holder worked the final three innings, giving up one hit and one unearned run.
But in Saturday’s second game, Newnan scored four runs in the third and six more in the fifth to get the five-inning run-rule victory.
The Cougars, now 9-3, have won five in a row, also pounding Cherokee 21-1 and Harrison 13-0.
In their 12 games, the Cougars have scored 103 runs.
Cole Gilmore went the first four innings for Newnan, giving up both of DeRosso’s hits.
When the Packers take on Coffee on Thursday, they will be trying to avenge a 4-2 loss to the Trojans on February 20 in Douglas. The Trojans have won eight of their first nine games and will play Bacon County on Monday and Brantley County on Tuesday before coming to Moultrie.
