MOULTRIE — Within the first four minutes of the game, the varsity Packers soccer team scored four goals against Tift County.
They would score two more goals during Tuesday away match, winning 6-0.
6-1-1 is the Packers current overall record.
“We had a great first half performance,” said assistant coach Marcus Lopez. “Going 4-0 in the first 3 minutes and 45 second was the result that came from 1-2 touch passing patterns and spreading the field wide with our wingers.”
Christian Mata received a quick pass from Edgar Contreras, just to the left of the penalty box, and he sent a shot flying past the goalie.
Goal No. 2 came one minute later when Contreras utilized the same strategy..
Cason Haskins was inside the penalty box when he received the pass from Contreras and from there was able to gently tap the ball into goal before the keeper could recover.
Mata got the third goal of the game 1:5 minutes later when the Blue Devils goalie had run out to try and snag the ball.
Managing to reach the ball just a hair sooner, Mata tapped the ball past the goalie as he was diving, and then blasted the ball for an easy goal.
Instantly after play play began again, the Packers stole the ball from Tift and ran it down the field.
Not even 30 seconds later, Bryan Ortiz had an air side kick directly in front of the goal after receiving a pass from Mata and sent it sailing to the back of the net.
The final two goals the Packers would score during the game would also occur during the first half.
With 27 minutes remaining, Mata was fouled in the Tift county goal box, and easily sent the ball sailing past the goalie during his penalty kick.
Mata also had his foot in the final goal when, seven minutes later, he put the ball in play through a corner kick and Hudson Glenn knocked the ball in.
Not including the six shots that made it on the scoreboard, the Packers took an additional 25 shot attempts.
Only four shots were taken on the Packer goalies Navi Rodriguez and Joshua Ramirez throughout the game.
In those instances were the ball did get on the Packer’s side of the field, several players worked to clear the ball, including: Uziel Garcia-Diaz, Mario Portillo, Glenn, Dierick Espinoza, Bennett Goss, Turner McDaniel and Christian Nunez.
Nunez’s most noteworthy clear as when he utilized a headbutt to reach the ball before the Tift County player, placing it near midfield.
Several Packers athletes also used a slide tackle to stop Tift County from advancing, including: Banks Flowers, Thomas Preza, Luis Mejia, Oswaldo Leon and Joshua Ramerez.
“We have scored 32 goals in the last six games,” said Lopez. “Offensively we look great and defensively we are solid. We look to continue to play hard, play smart and dominate with class.”
