MOULTRIE — Colquitt County’s Lady Packers earned their first soccer win of the 2024 season Tuesday night, shutting out Cairo, 5-0.
“We’ve been playing well in all of our games,” said head coach Carlos Bautista. “They work so hard and do everything asked of them. It felt great to finally win one – the girls have been so deserving of it.”
During the first half of the game neither goalkeeper let a shot slip past them, and the score was a pair of goose eggs when the buzzer sounded for the break.
In fact, having possession for the majority of the game, it was mostly calm for the Lady Packer goalkeepers.
“We moved people around and started doing better in the second half,” saiid Bautista. “They stepped up and started scoring.”
Jasmin Grijalva was the Lady Packer who scored that first point.
Two other Lady Packers, Jaida Gachuz and Greer Turnipseed, both got two goals each.
“The girls now have a leg to stand on,” said Bautista. “They played well and have shown they can execute the results we want and got that first win.”
The Lady Packers’ next game will be the first of region play.
Lowndes is traveling to Packer Park on Friday, with the game beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The Packers will play directly afterward.
